Phoenix, AZ—Santos Hernandez, owner-operator of Flash Auto Sales, was ordered today to pay restitution and fines totaling $115,622, and to serve three years of supervised probation, for Filing a False Return, a class 6 undesignated felony. Hernandez was accused of selling used cars to customers without paying the correct amount of tax due on those transactions.

From February of 2015 through December of 2018, Hernandez allegedly filed false tax returns understating his gross receipts and claiming he had no taxable sales. In the first three months of 2019, he did not file at all. Hernandez plead guilty on December 13, 2021 and agreed to pay restitution to the Arizona Department of Revenue in the amount of $110,622 and a fine of $5,000. He also agreed to cooperate in any civil audit conducted by the Arizona Department of Revenue.

The Arizona Department of Revenue’s Criminal Investigation Unit investigated the case.
